Games publisher Ubisoft is introducing an AI-powered virtual assistant to help players get more out of their game playing and access information about Ubisoft games and services.
Named Sam, the assistant is part of the Ubisoft Club mobile app for iOS and Android. As well as answering general questions about playing certain games or when new games will be released, it gives personalised assistance based on the user’s own profile, game patterns and game behaviour.
Sam “essentially acts like an AI-powered chatbot that follows your in-game progression and provides you with real-time stats and tips,” according to Engadget.
“We wanted to find a way to give the data back to the players, and show it in a meaningful way to enhance their gameplay experience,” explained Damien Moret, brand director at the Ubisoft Club.
“Another key idea is that players are increasingly looking for answers to many subjects around games, like tips, general info, or even just a release date… and it takes more and more time to find that information. We wanted something really accessible, so that they could spend less time searching and more time playing. And that is how Sam came to life.”
The tool uses Google Cloud’s Natural Language Processing and Dialogflow Enterprise Edition, enabling it to understand and interpret the questions asked by users. It also learns and improves its responses over time.
Following an initial public testing period in Canada, Sam is now available worldwide in beta. However, at the moment it still only understands English.
