US motorists can now pay for their fuel via a mobile app that is designed to make the process as quick and convenient as possible.
The GasBuddy app has tracking software which identifies when the user is visiting one of the more than 450 Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores.
To use the payment service, you just need to confirm your location and identify the pump you’ll be using.
The app activates the pump, and when fuelling is complete you’ll be sent a receipt for the purchase via the app.
The new mobile payment feature is an expansion of the existing Pay with GasBuddy card programme launched in September 2017, which enables consumers to save on fuel purchases.
“Every day millions of drivers open the GasBuddy app even before turning on their car engine to decide where to buy fuel,” said GasBuddy chief executive Sarah McCrary. “Our mobile payments feature enables customer-centric retailers like Love’s to own the entire customer dialogue, from pre-trip to the pump and beyond.”
Speaking to NewsOK, McCrary said that she views mobile payment as the next step in the technological evolution that made paying for fuel at the pump possible.
“We think, as convenient as paying with a card is, we think the app will become a favourite way to pay as more users get habituated to paying with their mobile device,” she said.
The app works at all Love’s Travel Stops locations across 41 states, and GasBuddy is also working to expand the service to other fuel retailers. The company hopes to see the feature available in 20% of US fuel stations by the end of 2018.
